Malta – Environmental Tax Introduction

We have been informed by a number of our suppliers that the Maltese Government have introduced a new tax to be payable by... all tourists visiting Malta.

From Wednesday 1st June 2016, the “ECO tax” of 50 cents per day is to be collected from every adult aged 18 and over entering Malta with a capping of EUR5.00. The tax will be collected by the accommodation provider during check-in.

This does not apply to tourists moving to a second hotel.

The tax is compulsory and will be applicable to all stays in Malta even if the accommodation was booked and paid for before 1st June 2016.

For reservations already confirmed for arrival after 1st June, please be mindful that as this is a newly announced tax, it is likely that you were not advised of this whilst making your booking.
